Nolvadex to Treat Gynecomastia?

You’re probably reading this because you need help getting rid of your “man boobs”.

If you look down your shirt and see boobs instead of a sculpted chest, you may just have Gynecomastia—a condition where males have enlarged breasts.

It may be developed from puberty to adulthood, which is caused by obesity, hormonal imbalance, excessive drinking, and perhaps drug abuse.

Having Gynecomastia sucks, doesn’t it? It feels ugly, unmanly, sometimes painful, and oftentimes embarrassing! You must be thinking, “I know, I know.”

Don’t worry, man. It’s not the end of the world.

In some cases, it goes away on its own—sometimes in less than two years. If not, well, you may want to see your doctor! He may prescribe medication or may suggest getting surgery to get rid of it once and for all.

One medication your doctor may prescribe is Tamoxifen Citrate, which can come either in tablets or liquid form.

A popular and powerful brand containing Tamoxifen Citrate is AstraZeneca’s Nolvadex.

It isn’t steroidal, in case you’re concerned. It’s actually an anti-estrogen medication usually used for breast cancer treatment.

It belongs to a category of drugs called “Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators” or SERMs for short.

In a nutshell, the medication works by blocking the growth effects of estrogen in the breast tissue. Estrogen is the female hormone, which is a major factor in breast enlargement among men.

Nolvadex usually comes in a box containing thirty 10mg tablets. It’s a prescription drug so you can’t buy it over the counter.

Your doctor will be the one to tell you how many tablets to consume each day. This will be based on the gravity of your Gynecomastia and the response of your body to the treatment. Make sure to follow directions exactly as prescribed.

Tablets are consumed orally with or without food.

Typically, the daily dosage for adults and elderly patients is anywhere from 10-40mg a day. Depending on your doctor’s directions, this is usually ingested once or twice daily, which can go on for weeks, months, or years. Again, this depends on what your doctor says. Never self-medicate!

Side effects of this drug are uncommon. However, there are men who experience headaches, nausea, muscle aches, leg cramps, thinning hair, and numbing or tingling skin.

In some men, sexual ability and interest may decline. (Oh no!)

Do advise your doctor if these symptoms occur.

By blocking the effects of estrogen, Nolvadex essentially stops Gynecomastia from getting worse, which means your man boobs won’t get any bigger than it already is. With the source of estrogen intercepted, the Gynecomastia may shrink.

In some cases, though, the drug may not totally get rid of the growth.

While this has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it has not been approved specifically for the treatment of Gynecomastia.

And if you’re still unhappy with the results and are still bothered by your chest despite medication, tell your doctor. He may just recommend going in for surgery.

Best of luck, man!
