Gynecomastia in One Breast! Is that possible?

There is anatomical difference between a male’s breast and a female’s breast. There are two factors that can sustain the enlarged breasts in females, which are the estrogen and progesterone. At some point in life, like in puberty and old age, gynecomastia is normal, as there is a surge of estradiol and imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. In cases involving development and stage, breast tissue enlargement is normal.

Like in females, a male’s breasts can be asymmetric, and that’s normal. For males with the condition, it is normal that one breast is larger than the other. It is possible that only one breast is affected, depending on whether that part has been targeted by the female hormone estrogen, and if the estrogen level is so high as to cause more enlargements on the one that has more estrogen receptors.

Breast growth in males can affect only the fats or adipose tissues in the breast, which is known as peudogynecomastia. This condition is common among obese males, although obesity can trigger the development of true man boobs. True man boobs is characterized by a growth near the areola and nipple. This condition cannot be simply treated with chest exercises. For enlargement that lasted for more than two years, exercise cannot be the best option for making it go away. Only surgery can offer a guarantee that the breast tissue will be removed.

Chest exercises can only make the enlarged tissue more prominent as the muscles behind the breast tissue can push it forward. For men with man boobs that cause a noticeable asymmetry in the breasts, the only treatment is plastic surgery. It can create no scar at the site of incision, depending on the skill of the surgeon. For those whose breasts tissues are not really enlarged, but only the surrounding fatty tissues, it can be treated with diet and exercise.

There are secondary conditions from which man boobs can develop. One of these is malnutrition where there is a decreased level of testosterone while the estrogen levels remain the same. Another factor that can cause a man boob is dialysis, as there are not enough testosterone levels in the blood. The estrogen-promoting foods that people eat can also be the cause.

It is important to check with the physician to know what kind of gynecomastia a male has. It is to rule out the possibility of cancer and the existence of underlying kidney, liver and metabolic diseases.

The estrogenic type of breast enlargement is not to be taken for granted as cancer can arise from such. Men are not excluded to have breast cancer. Breast cancer in males has many types, which can be lobular, ductal, inflammatory, etc. A bloody discharge from the nipple can be indicative of cancer, but the asymmetry in man boobs is just normal.

It is just normal for men to have estrogen in their body as long as it does not enlarge the breast tissues or cause decreased libido and infertility. It is normal for men to also have progesterone, which is said to be exclusive for females. Both genders share the same hormones and it’s only the levels that differ.
