Chamomile is the herb or weed found in roadsides, landfills and cultivated areas in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. The plant including its flowers are dried and made into tea. In traditional medicine it is used as a mild laxative, gentle sleep aid and medicine for sore stomach or irritable bowel syndrome. The plant has also been studied against oral mucositis in the form of mouthwash. There has been no mention of the herb as a cure or treatment of gynecomastia or its common name “man boobs.”
Gynecomastia or man boobs is the condition in males where their breasts enlarge due to a disorder in the endocrine system. Its main symptom is the formation of the firm glandular chest tissue found under the areola of one’s nipple. In infants and early puberty, disturbances in the estrogen and androgen levels caused by hormonal changes lead to the enlargement of the breasts and usually resolve on their own when their hormones are balanced. In older males, breast enlargement is caused by the decrease in their levels of testosterone. Adult males who suffer the condition need to be properly diagnosed to rule out other possible causes such as cancer, liver disease and kidney problems. Breasts enlargement due to cancer is diagnosed through mammography. Your physician will also need to have a proper medical history and check if the enlargement of the breasts is only a build-up of fatty tissues. This condition is known as pseudogynecomastia.
Gynecomastia has levels or degrees of severity. Depending on which level you are your doctor will advise you of the proper treatment necessary. For mild cases, the breast enlargement resolves on its own with time. For some, a lifestyle change may be necessary such as proper diet and exercise and avoiding stress. It is on this case that one might use chamomile as a supplement or part of one’s diet and not directly a cure for the male breast enlargement. In severe cases that require surgery, liposuction or mastectomy is performed. Some people might suffer from chronic pain due to the growth of tissues and some might have a milky discharge if the enlargement is caused by prolactin secreting tumor. Breast enlargements might also be induced by some drugs taken for cosmetic purposes especially on transgenders but care is needed when taking breast enlargement drugs. It is best to consult your physician of the proper treatment of your breast enlargement problem.
Many patients have been treated with this condition and many have survived it. Man boobs is not only a physiological condition but also a psychological one. Man boobs are not a rare condition, what is rare is those breast enlargements caused by cancer. Do not hesitate to consult your doctor when symptoms appear. Ask your doctor for advice if you are planning to include the chamomile herb in your diet. The herb has medicinal properties but they do not directly relate to the treatment of breast enlargement.
