The What Why and How of Lowering Estrogen

For whatever reason, you want to lower your estrogen level. The classic example is, you are a man and your excessive estrogen production has resulted in a less masculine you. You could also be suffering from gynecomastia a.k.a. man boobs. Women also take estrogen for several reasons i.e. birth control, cancer prevention, to look younger, etc.

The Goal

This article will provide information on how to decrease estrogen levels. The discussion will center on natural and available remedies. If that doesn’t work, a primer on medication will also be provided. Just make sure to consult a physician before taking the later.

Lifestyle

If you have too much estrogen, then you are probably doing something to trigger its production. A classic example is a male who eats processed foods, canned foods, and liquids inside plastic containers. What’s the connection? There have been studies linking increased estrogen levels with processed and canned food plus bottled water or drinks.

Your best bet is home cooked meals or a select list of restaurants and dietician approved grocery items. Bring your own water container, preferably made of glass. If you have a plastic bottle container, then change it every couple of months. Never leave it exposed in hot humid conditions i.e. inside your car. There really is no difference between purified and tap water. Unless of course your state is not doing its job keeping your drinking water clean.

Food

There are certain foods that contain estrogen or trigger the production of the same. You need to minimize the intake of these. At the very least space them out so you eat small portions after a reasonable interval. Things to avoid include:

•Legumes
•Tofu
•Soy and soy based products
•beans
•Coffee (limit it to 2 small cups a day)
•Beer
•cigarettes

Exercise

Men who exercise lower their estrogen levels, it’s as simple as that. For good measure add more weights in your menu. In females the reverse is true. Exercising increases the proper balance of their body. This means better estrogen production.

Medical Preconditions

Conditions like diabetes, liver disease, kidney disorders, etc., lower testosterone levels in men. If that was not bad enough, this allows what little estrogen you have to be more pronounced.

Genetics and existing medical preconditions may increase your estrogen levels. If this is the case then you should watch what you eat. Get regular physician checkups, and take your medication.

Medication

If natural methods to lower estrogen don’t work, then you need to consider taking medication. In males, a testosterone shot can help. Other medication to take includes, but is not limited to:

•Tamoxifen: This is a known estrogen blocker. It is being marketed for menopausal women and those prone to cancer.

•Testosterone shots: By increasing testosterone, estrogen levels go down or at least the physical manifestations of the same is minimized.

•Aromatase inhibitors i.e. (testolactone)

In Closing

How to decrease estrogen levels should be done slowly but surely and safely. The author is not telling you to skip the above mentioned foods altogether. All you need to do is minimize and space out intake. If you are taking medication, make sure it is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
